My DNS Service Has Been Sold
     - Wednesday, August 17, 2005
Ahhhhhhh - Sorry about all the problems recently. It appears the company that runs my DNS service has been sold. As some of my regular readers might know, this site, along with a bunch of other ones is hosted in my home using my cable modem connection. However, I don't have a static IP address, so I'm using a dynamic DNS service. Without getting into too much detail, a dynamic DNS service provides a static place for websites to be routed through. Visitor's to this site send out a request to find out where the site is, and my DNS service company sends them to the IP address of my home computer. My DNS service knows what IP address I'm using because I run a program on my computer that sends updates to their database. But sometime over the last couple of weeks the DNS service I use was sold, and the servers have become neglected by during the transfer. I called the new owners this morning and they're working out a plan to move me onto their service. So, we'll see how that works out. I'll keep you posted.
