Disable Windows Genuine Advantage

     - Friday, August 19, 2005

Disabling Microsoft's new Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) couldn't be easier. Simply open Internet Explorer and go to Windows Update and download the WGA validation tool. Once installed, the tool can be disabled by going to Tools, Internet Options window, select the Programs tab, and click on Manage Add-Ons. Select the Windows Genuine Advantage add-on, and then set it to Disable.

Now you can go back to Windows Updates to get your updates and the validation check will be bypassed.

Here's a nice page with screen shots for disabling WGA
