Turn On Automatic Updates for Windows

     - Tuesday, August 10, 2004

Sometime this week or next Microsoft will begin releasing Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. To be among the first to get the update, you'll need to have Automatic Updates turned on. That's easy to do, just go to Start and select the Control Panel. Choose Performance and Maintenance, then open the System Properties (System icon).

There you'll find an Automatic Updates tab which has several options to choose how you want to automatically update Windows. I like to automatically download the updates, but then let me choose when to install them. Not only do I like to keep an eye on what's being installed, but also since some updates require a reboot, I like to coordinate when it's convenient for me.
