Upgrading to XP Pro

Finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade to Window XP Professional! I've always been a longtime fan on XP Home, not really seeing much reason for the average user to need Pro. But on the advice of a friend, I'm giving it a try. Upgrade was pretty smooth, except that it took so long to complete, nearly an hour. And that doesn't include the 17 security patches from Windows Update which are still installing.

Most importantly, other than screwing around with my desktop resolution and some icons, the rest of the system seems exactly the same. Of course, there's the additional XP Pro features, like remote desktop and EFS (encrypted file system). Look for upcoming reviews of those features.

Overall, upgrade from XP Home to Pro is easy, but just takes a long time.
