Blogger FTP and BlogSpot
     - Tuesday, June 22, 2004
About 2 weeks ago I moved my sites off of the free BlogSpot host. What started as an exercise to make a backup, quickly turned into "Hey, this is easier than I thought". Before I knew it, I had the site regularly publishing to my own webserver. It's not all goodness, however. Bogger's FTP publishing setting's page took some time to figure out. The "Blog URL" and "FTP Path" confused me for some reason.
Turns out the Blog URL field is the text that will be inserted into your pages when needed to complete a relative path, say to the archives or post pages. So, for my site, my Blog URL path is: http://www.complexdistress.com/cd/
The FTP Path is just the path from the home directory to where the files should be dropped, in this case just the cd/ part.
Lastly, redirect your visitors. Change the publishing setting back to Blog*Spot, and post a final message letting your adoring fans know that you've moved.
P.S. - Still love Blog*Spot. It's free and easy. Just wanted more control over my site.
