Using Your Credit Card Online

     - Friday, January 02, 2004

Here are the rules on using your credit card online. Only use a credit card at a site you know and trust. Real world stores with online sites such as Walmart and Best Buy are usually fine. Well known sites such as Amazon are also fine. Never use a check card that's directly connected to our checking account or savings account. If the card number is stolen, at least you won't loose your shirt.

Make sure you're using your card at a secure site. Look for the the lock image or check that the URL starts with https://

I would not use a credit card with an eBay auction, but I would use PayPal or just bid on auctions that accept checks. I would use a credit card for airline tickets at Yahoo or Delta, but not at some random travel site I got from Google.

Do NOT, (listen carefully) do NOT enter your credit card on a site you opened from an email. Scammers send emails that look like the real thing, but then just directs you to their fake site.
