Found 2 new utilities that I think you might like. The first is the
Google Deskbar. It's a little Google search window that lives on your Taskbar (that thing with the Start button). No more starting a browser and going to Google then entering your search. Just type in a search, and little little sliding window pops up with your results. You can also type a word and press Ctrl-D to get the definition.

The second utility is
SlickRun. While not exactly a beginner's tool, if you're forever using the Run command line in Windows to quickly jump to programs, you'll love SlickRun. The program also lets you assign shorcut words to launch particular programs. When it's inactive, it displays the date and time in a semi-transparent window.
