Broadband Router

If you have a DSL line or Broadband cable internet, you need a broadband router. This little box sits between your computer and the internet and manages your DSL connection, including connecting and keeping you online. No more PPoEEE or whatever that stuff is that Verizon makes you run - with a router your always connected (just like at work). For around $60 you can get a wired box from D-Link or Linksys. For $20 more you can add a wireless network: D-Link or Linksys. If you already have DSL or cable internet, no additional equipment is needed on your computer.

Best yet, here's all the features you can get with this little box:
  • NAT and DHCP - lets you share a single IP address

  • Share the internet, printers, files, etc, among all your computers

  • Connect your X-Box to play online

  • Works as a simple firewall to keep out the bad guys
